Abstract

Stress Guide: work-related and non-work-related stressors. Managing stress and healthy lifestyle habits

The term "stress" has become part of our everyday vocabulary and is widely used to refer to daily situations and experiences that affect different areas of our lives. The rapid transformations we experience in all aspects of our lives -lifestyles, new and intense demands, accelerated change, new work relationships, and the unpredictability of events- demand a great deal from people and generate discomfort, unease, and sometimes illness and other negative consequences. However, neither the term nor the concept of stress is new. The term "stress" is over seventy years old and was conceived as "the non-specific response of the body to any demand placed upon it." But in recent years, and currently with greater intensity, there has been a specific concern and interest in addressing psychosocial risks, including work-related stress.

This guide is for anyone interested in understanding what stress is, how it develops, its potential triggers, and its consequences. It also addresses preventative measures -at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels- as well as recommendations on lifestyle choices that can be beneficial or detrimental to stress management.

While not intended to be an exhaustive manual, it offers a range of resources and references for further exploration of the topics covered.
